Obituary

Johnnie Clyde Johnson, born on November 19, 1946, in Sardis, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 in Wyandotte, Michigan, on June 20, 2026.

Johnnie lived a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories. He was a man who embraced life's pleasures, finding joy with entertaining family and friends. His home was often the heart of lively card parties and memorable barbeques. Whether he was playing cards or manning the grill, his laughter and competitive spirit were infectious. He along with his late wife Catherine enjoyed the thrill of the casino and the camaraderie found in playing cards and gambling with friends and family. Johnnie had a passion for attending church, barbecuing and cooking breakfast. He loved his Detroit Lions and Pistons and watched their games every chance he had. For over 40 years, Johnnie shared a deep and abiding love with his late wife, Catherine Johnson. Together, they created a warm and loving home that was a haven for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Lamont (LaShawn) Johnson, Angela (D'Wayne) Hayes, Mary McKinnie, Katherine Lovelace, and Effie (Cliff) Holmes. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Amelia, Lamont "LJ" (Madeline), LaBrina, Davion, Dyontae, MaLeah, Tamia, Jasmine, Brandi, and Brittani as well as his precious great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Gianna, Genae, Josiah, Xavier and Matilyn. Johnnie is also survived by his siblings, Ruby Jean, Hattie, Eva, Robert, Lura, MacArthur, Willie C, Louis, Andrew, James and Linda.

Preceding him in death are his parents, N.R. Jones and Edith Burdett, his beloved son, David Johnson, his sister Charlene and his granddaughter, Ciarah.

Johnnie's presence will be sorely missed, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. His legacy is one of kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. May he rest in peace.

Condolences
