Obituary

Gene Joseph Kraemer, a devoted family man and respected Arson Investigator, for the Houma Fire Department, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Southgate, Michigan, at the age of 81. He was born on October 30, 1943, in Houma, Louisiana, to his loving parents, Aurelien and Helena Kraemer,  and 9 siblings who preceded him in death.

Gene dedicated many years of his life to the fire department, serving with unwavering commitment as an Arson Investigator. His career was marked by dedication and a deep sense of duty. Beyond his professional life, Gene found great joy in the outdoors, especially through his passions for fishing and hunting. These pursuits brought him peace and fulfillment, allowing him to connect with nature and unwind from the demands of his work.

Above all else, Gene cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to his life. His love and devotion to his family were evident in every interaction, and he will be fondly remembered as a caring husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Pat Kraemer; his sons, Darren Kraemer and his wife Dana, and Scott Kraemer and his wife Nicole. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Matthew Haley and his husband Jason, Alexios Chicko, Athena Chicko, Marcus Kraemer, Lucas Kraemer, Isaiah Graham, Gemma Kraemer, Harper Kraemer, and Zoe Kraemer. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Dean Kraemer along with many nieces and nephews  who shared many cherished memories with him over the years.

In accordance with Gene's wishes, there will be no funeral services. His family and friends will honor his memory in their hearts and through the stories and laughter they shared with him during his lifetime.

Gene Joseph Kraemer will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved.

  • It’s with my deepest condolences that I am sending prayers, hugs and love to Aunt Pat, Darren, Scott and their families I remember as a very young kid visiting Aunt Pat and Uncle Gene. Most of my favorite childhood memories from Louisiana are at their house either playing in the play room being loud and annoying Uncle Gene while he tried to watch TV in peace… although he never complained, or our long talks about life and my place in the world! They both were there for me more than I could ever repay… I truly believe it our long talks on the back patio swing plays a huge part in the person and mother I am today! For that I am forever grateful! Rest in eternal peace Uncle Gene. Sue Cope
  • Tim and I will always cherish the time we were able to spend with Gene…his backyard crawfish boils, his fishing stories, and watching him fish with his grandchildren here in Florida will always be sweet memories for us…Love you Gene….Rest in Peace our friend….Diana and Tim Fournier Diana and Tim Fournier
