Obituary

Gloria L. (Stratman) Kavanagh, 71 of Brighton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family March 13, 2025 in Ann Arbor. She was born Dec. 7, 1953 to William and Dorothy Stratman of Oak Park.

Gloria grew up in a large family where she and her siblings enjoyed the benefits of a tight-knit neighborhood. She went to Berkley High School and graduated in the Class of 1972. She later graduated from Barbizon Modeling School, had a career in modeling and started her own interior design company in Ann Arbor.

Family gatherings—especially around Christmas and Easter—always elicited a lot smiles and laughter. Gloria liked to shop, play games, exercise (Tennessee Fitness Spa) and never missed a manicure or pedicure. She rarely missed an annual trip to Nassau, Bahamas with her five sisters.

But her greatest joy was being a mother to daughter Kyle and son Kristopher (Tina) Kavanagh. Family vacations with Thomas Kavanagh, her husband of 40 years, to Delta Court of Flags and Disney World in Orlando created a lifetime of memories. She was extremely proud of Kyle’s modeling and broadcasting careers and Kris’s hockey career. She was supportive of haberdasher TK’s many sales awards and trips.

In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her siblings Diann (Dennis) Tomar of Canon City, CO.; Carol (Milo) Moreno of Saginaw; Cheri (Larry ) Adams of Hardy, AR.; Jacqueline (James) Karshner of DeWitt; Marc (Lisa) Stratman of Flint; Gay (Perry) Lafountain of Reed City, and Robert Stratman of Davison.

Also surviving are mother- in-law Rose Kavanagh of Monroe; sisters-in-law Karon and Sharon and brother-in-law Joseph (Doris) Kavanagh. Also, Kristopher’s in-laws Vince (Laurie) Colatruglio.

She was a popular aunt among more than 30 nephews and nieces.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents and brothers DuWayne (who is survived by sister-in-law Diane), William and Dennis.

Condolences

  • Gloria and TK were our much loved neighbors for several years. We shared many happy memories sitting by the pool and around the backyard fire pit. We watched our children grow up together and our lives were happy and enriched by each other. What a blessing to have had that time together in that season of life. Gloria was bold and beautiful in her spirit and confident in her approach to life. She had a fierce love for her family and took great pride in all of their successes. She would go to the ends of the earth to encourage her children's dreams. She was a supportive wife to TK and we love them dearly. We are sad to lose Gloria so young and embrace her in our hearts as we pray God's full blessings over her and her family. May God bless TK, Kyle, Kris and all her family with peace and comfort during this time of sadness as he promises in Matthew 5:4 - "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted". Much love to TK, Kyle and Kris from the Baty Family. We love you. Brad and Linda Baty
