Obituary

Julia Ann Koebel, born on April 17, 1941, in Owosso, Michigan, passed away on August 29, 2026, in Ash Township, Michigan, at the age of 85. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and dedication.

Julia devoted 15 years of her life as a nun with the Adrian Dominican Sisters, where she embraced a life of service and faith. Following her time with the sisters, she embarked on a remarkable 42-year career in education, teaching and inspiring countless children before retiring from Gibraltar Schools. Her passion for teaching and her commitment to her students left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of learning from her.

Beyond her professional life, Julia cherished her family deeply. She found immense joy in singing and dancing with her grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever. She enjoyed camping adventures and shared the thrill of the dragstrip with her family, cheering on her husband John as he raced. Known for her generous spirit, Julia was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her favorite movie, "Funny Girl," reflected her love for laughter and joy.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Harriet Dutcher. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, John Koebel Jr., who stood by her side through life's journey. She leaves behind her loving children, Ann Elizabeth (Bill) Jones and Christopher Patrick (Jennifer) Koebel, and her cherished grandchildren, Ian (Mara) Koebel, Gavin (Sammy Michael) Koebel, Timmy Jones, and Austin Jones. Julia is also survived by her dear siblings, Charles (Kathleen) Dutcher, Patrick (Mary Ann) Dutcher, and Ed (Cathy) Dutcher.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adrian Dominican Sisters, honoring Julia's lifelong commitment to faith and service. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Condolences

  • We are very sorry for your loss, Condolences and prayers for you and the Family Gary Compton
  • I was a student of Mrs. Koebel’s at St. Mary School in Rockwood, Michigan. I will always remember her yelling 10 whenever a student misbehaved. It meant you had to immediately do 10 pushups. She was a wonderful teacher who ran her classroom sternly. Scott Beaudrie
  • She was such a beautiful soul. Leia Martin
  • Rest in peace Mrs Koebel. Thank you for everything you ever did. Bill Ticich
