Obituary

Mary Rose Koval (Grech) was born on the island of Malta 11/25/39.   She immigrated aboard the Nea Hellas with her mother, Jane, sister, Elizabeth, and brother, Henry in 1950.  Their father, Oreste Grech, was already established in Detroit preparing for their arrival. She married the late Felix Camilleri in 1958 and raised 5 boys in the following years in Detroit and later settled on Grosse Ile, Michigan. After Felix's passing, Rose started the second chapter of her life when she met and married Charles Koval in 1983 and began working in real estate.  By the end of her 35 year real estate career, she maintained  the “top seller” position at Century 21 Riverpointe for twenty-one consecutive years ending with her retirement in 2021. Rose was an avid sports fan and was typically at every one of her son's and grandchildren's games and could be heard from the stands with her cowbell. Later in life, Rose also enjoyed volunteering as a costume designer for the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center.  Rose is survived by husband, Charles “Champ” Koval and her 5 adult boys, Jim Camilleri, Robert Camilleri (Denise), Kenneth Camilleri (Christina), John Camilleri (Nicole) and Mark Camilleri.  She is also survived by grandchildren Nicholas, Zachary, Phillip, Jim, Paul and Chloe; and her 2 siblings, Elizabeth Elliott and Henry Grech, along with many nieces and nephews.

  • I have appreciated and respected Rose for decades. She was always kind and patient with me when I was new to real estate, and I learned much from her. Lucky enough to have worked with her on several occasions over the years, I will miss her personality, wit and wisdom. Her work ethic was second to none. Her family is on my mind and in my prayers. Lori Will
  • Growing up with the younger Camilleri’s, I first knew Rose as a mom, and later, when buying homes in Flat Rock and GI, she became known as our realtor. But she always maintained that mom quality! “Put out some flowers!” “Fix that window!” “Move that couch!” when we were preparing to sell our homes. She always had great advice and a cheery “Rose Koval!” when answering the phone. Our family will miss her mom ways! Andrew Johnson
  • Rose is the only reason I was able to realize my dream of owning my own commercial property. She made me feel like I could do anything! She was an incredible woman and I am so grateful to have worked with her! My heart is with her family and friends. Rest in peace dear Rose Nicole Ledbetter
  • I was saddened to discover the passing of my stepmother, Rose. She came into my life after marrying my dad. I know I wasn’t the easiest child, but she tried her best with me and always pushed me to be my best. I accredit her with helping me to pass high school. I know she wanted the best for me and I truly loved her. I’m sorry I didn’t have the opportunity to say goodbye to her and to tell her what a great impact she had on me. I wish she would have gotten the chance to know my daughter, Peyton, and to have seen how well my life is now with my wife, Kristin. Rest in Peace, Rose, and my sympathy to the rest of the family. Paul Koval
