Obituary

Ruth Eleanor Klaska, 92, also affectionately known as “Ruthie” and “Aunt Ruthie” passed away on December 20, 2025 in Sandy Spring, Maryland. Her death was peaceful with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. Ruth was born on May 23, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, to Eleanor (Bragenzer) and Herbert Powser. She was the second oldest child, after her sister Doris, and joined over the years by ten additional siblings: John, Harvey, Carl, Herbert, Robert, Harold, Norman, Judith, Cynthia, Sandra.

Ruth loved her siblings and many nieces and nephews, and valued time spent and the great fun she had with them.  She had a special love for animals. She cherished her many pets over the years, but the most special was her loyal and loving feline companion Heidi. Ruth also loved beautiful music, especially choral music, and in her earlier years she loved to dance.

She is survived by her daughter Tina (Otter) Stiller, son-in-law John Stiller, brother Herbert (Buzzy) Powser, sister Cynthia Powser, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and also her beloved cat Heidi.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Eleanor and Herbert Powser, her husband Byron Otter, her son Michael Otter, her second husband Charles Klaska, brothers and sisters Robert Powser, Harvey Powser, Harold Powser, Doris (Powser) Irvine, John Powser, Carl Powser, Judith (Powser) Presnell, Sandra (Powser) Darocha, and Norman Powser.

Ruth was an amazing woman in so many ways. Her life was a testament to her devotion to family and friends. She had a gift for making people feel loved and special. Ruth’s life was an ongoing display of kindness and goodness, to her family, her friends, and strangers too. She will forever be remembered for being a selfless, kind, beautiful soul.
