Obituary

KMET, Virginia, age 98, born July 29, 1922 and passed away peacefully in her home on August 07, 2020. She was born in Warren, MI and her family moved to Romulus, MI when she was small. She remained in Romulus her whole life. Virginia started working when she was 14 years old and worked until she was 97 years old. She worked at St. Stephen Catholic School and Church in New Boston, MI for about 41 years. When she retired from the school, she continued working at the church 1 day a week. She retired from the church on June 10, 2020. She also worked at the Bomber Plant for 4 years during the war, she worked on the wings. Her hobby was just taking car rides and looking around at everything. She didn’t care if the ride was short or long, just so she was riding someplace. She liked to watch the birds in the backyard under the tree as she ate her breakfast. Her favorite was the red Cardinal, then the Woodpecker and Blue Jay. Virginia is survived by her loving daughter Mona, her brother John Grishaber and her sister Ruth Kissel. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Louis Kmet, her daughter Christine McFall, her parents Joseph and Frances Grishaber, her brothers Harry, Joseph, Adam, Clarence and William and her sisters Henrietta, Frances, Margaret and Rose.

Condolences

  • Dear Mona - my heart is saddened by the loss of Aunt Virginia. She was such a wonderful, sweet and kindhearted woman. She was a fixture in so many of my childhood and adulthood memories at all Kmet functions; both her and Uncle Loch! Shandra (Betz) Schoonover
  • Dear Mona, I am so saddened to hear about the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful, kind, sweet woman who I know will be greatly missed. Every time I saw her I'd always get a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. She lived a long, beautiful life. She can now dance in heaven with your your dad and sister. Although your heart wasn't ready God decided it was time for her to gain her wings. I lost my mother in May so I know the heartache you must have. I'm so very sorry I will be unable to attend your mother's viewing or funeral. I pray for comfort and peace for you as I know the days ahead will be very difficult. I send my love to you.❤️ Deborah Sylvester
  • Dear Mona and family... I am so sorry to hear about Aunt Virginia...we’re sending our condolences, sympathies and love to you as another one of our family (Aunt, Great Aunt, and a Great Great Aunt) members decided to gain her wings as heavens gained another golden Angel. Such a sweet lady she was and was one of my favorites...along, with Rachel. Rachel loved her to pieces and although, we were close and far apart and across miles...she often would bring her up in some of our conversations. Her brother Harry passed away on the 11th and buried on the 13th of August and she’s right in between. God rest her soul! Love, Always Stacy, Mike, Rachel and Derek <3 The Bender and Sword Family
