Obituary

David William Ludke, a devoted family man and a beacon of selflessness, passed away on October 10, 2025, in South Rockwood, Michigan, at the age of 75. Born on August 4, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, David lived a life full of love, service, and adventure.

David proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1973, completing two tours in Vietnam. His bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous honors, including the Air Medal with Numeral 19, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal with one star, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the Combat Air Crew with three stars, the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and the Pistol Expert Badge.

After his military service, David embarked on a successful career at Fritz Enterprise, where he worked diligently for 35 years as a plant manager before retiring. His work ethic and leadership left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

An avid fisherman with a particular passion for salmon, David found joy and tranquility on the water. He loved boating and was known as a jack of all trades, always ready to lend a hand or share his knowledge. Above all, David cherished his family, whom he loved deeply and selflessly.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Mary "Pat" Ludke, who stood by his side through life's journey. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his five children: Michael Ludke, Tara Ludke, Chris (Melissa) Peters, Jeannie Peters, and Justin (Natalie) Peters; fifteen grandchildren: Noah, Abigail, Gabe, Isaac, Eva, David, Bohdi, Jacob, Hunter, Calob, Kaylee, Austin P., Austin N., Livia, and Brennen; and three great grandchildren: Jack, Margot, and Cillian. His loyal dogs, Cooper and Sadie, will miss his gentle presence. He is also survived by his sister, Catherine (Brian ) Howard.

David was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Ludke, and sister, Toots Showerman. He leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A celebration of David's remarkable life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his legacy and share stories of his kindness and generosity.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David's name to the Fisher House Foundation in Ann Arbor, Michigan, supporting military families in need.

David William Ludke's life was a testament to the power of love, service, and generosity. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.

His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
