Obituary
In the grand workshop of life, George Dominic Lane Jr. has hung up his tool belt for the final time, passing away on June 10, 2026, in New Boston, Michigan, due to cardiomyopathy. Born on March 11, 1941, in the bustling city of Detroit, Michigan, he lived a remarkable 85 years filled with love, laughter, and an impressive collection of small engines.
A retired automotive paint chemist, George certainly knew his way around a car, a tractor, or a Model T, for that matter. However, he preferred his vehicles with a dash of vintage charm and perhaps a touch of rust. When not working his magic with paint, he could be found tinkering in the lower Huron Metro Parks, ensuring the trails were as well-maintained as his beloved snowmobiles.
George was a man of many passions. A proud member of the NRA and the USS Michigan Landing Party, he also managed to squeeze in some authoring time, enlightening Popular Mechanics readers with his insights on small engines. His Occupational Health certification was just another feather in his well-decorated cap.
With woodworking tools in hand, George loved to build things from barns to an entire log cabin house while still finding time to help friends and family with their own projects. A hunting enthusiast, he was as adept at tracking deer as he was at tracking down the elusive perfect wood finish.
Preceded in death by his parents, George Dominic Lane Sr. and Clara VanAssche Lane, and his daughter Elizabeth Kathleen Lane, George leaves behind a loving family who will no doubt continue his legacy of craftsmanship and wit. Surviving him are his devoted wife, Elaine E. Lane; his daughter, Heather Jacek (husband Brian); his granddaughter, Samantha Cosme (husband Corey), along with his great-granddaughters, Esme and Evie; his granddaughters Brandi and Krystal Jacek; his son, Scott Lane
(x-wife Heather) and grandsons Jacob (wife Briana)and Nathan Lane; and son Jonathan Lane and family.
George’s family invites you to celebrate his life and share your favorite tales of his legendary handiwork during visitation on June 18 from 4-7 PM at the Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on June 19 at Harvest Church in Westland, Michigan, with instate beginning at 10 AM and the funeral service at 11 AM. A luncheon will follow, surely filled with as many laughs as tears.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you fix that squeaky hinge, build something fabulous, or simply lend a helping hand to someone in need, just as George would have done.
