Obituary

Lanny Joseph Laritz, age 85, of Holland, Ohio, loving Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away on Wednesday, March 02, 2022. Born November 23, 1936, Lanny was the youngest of three children born to Frank and Victoria (née Pyszczynski) Laritz. He grew up in Wyandotte, MI and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. While earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Detroit, he met his future wife, Mary Ann Schauerte. They were married on May 2, 1959. By this time, he had started his career at Monsanto. With their firstborn on the way, the couple moved into their first home in Lincoln Park, Michigan. There he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Three children later (Frank, John and Teri), the family moved to Grosse Ile, Michigan. Lanny went to night school at the University of Michigan to earn his Master’s in Business Administration. His career advanced quickly when he seized upon a new opportunity at IMC Fertilizer Group to manage their uranium extraction operation and moved the family to Lakeland, Florida. Lanny always had a love for the outdoors: hunting, fishing and boating. Additional favorite pastimes were tennis, golf and bridge. Living in Florida enticed him to buy a condominium on Siesta Key in 1986, which quickly became a favorite family hangout. With a downturn in the uranium market, Lanny decided to pull up stakes and move to Ohio where he took on new management positions with Coulton Chemical and then Marsulex. After a short stay in Lima, Ohio, he and Mary Ann moved into a house in the Stone Oak Country Club community in Holland, Ohio. Once he retired, he would make an annual pilgrimage to the condo in Florida to avoid the cold Ohio winters.62 years of marriage, 3 children and 9 grandchildren made Lanny the family man that everyone knew and loved. He prided himself on helping his family with their life goals while being a fun, loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather.Lanny is survived by his wife Mary Ann (née Schauerte) Laritz. Loving father of Frank (Cathleen Pecka) Laritz, John (Jennifer) Laritz and Teri (Floyd) Absher. Dearest grandfather of Frank, Alyssa, Michael (Marissa), Christine, Daniel, Amelia, Floyd, and Clara. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew, parents, Frank and Victoria (née Pyszczynski) Laritz, and his sisters, Lavonne Bilan and Loraine Baszczuk. Please join us in the celebration of Lanny’s life at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home at 30895 W.
