Obituary

Liparoto, Leonardo, J., age 65, of Belleville, December 19, 2022. Beloved husband to Julie Liparoto, married in Italy on May 18, 2018. Loving and proud father to Jeniece Ballerini, Jessica (Mitch Mahlum) Liparoto, Jolyn Liparoto, and Joseph Liparoto. He is survived by his siblings Lena (Dominic) Zanger, Grazia (Stefano) Biundo, Filippo (Giovanna) Liparoto, Vito (Tamara) Liparoto, Rita (Salvatore) Polizzi, and his sister-in-law Maria Liparoto. He is reunited in heaven with his parents Stefano and Vincenza Liparoto, and his siblings Frank Liparoto and Maria (Vito) Cuccia.

“Joe” was the co-owner of Leonardo’s Italian Grille in Romulus, MI for 39 years and thought of his employees as family. He loved to golf and travel. He enjoyed beautiful vacations to Europe, Alaska, Mexico and South Africa. He was a member of the Belleville Yacht Club and loved the lake life. He could often be found entertaining friends and family with a Crown Royal Manhattan nearby. He will be remembered for his kind heart, positive attitude and generosity. His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Julie Liparoto. The family will be donating to the 7th floor at the U of M oncology unit in Joe’s honor.

  • So sorry to hear of his passing. As a former Romulus Councilman and Planning Commission member, I can vividly recall when Joe & Vito came for approval of the first Leonardo's on Ecorse Rd. Joe was always so pleasant to speak with, and always had a handshake in friendship. Just so sad to lose such a wonderful & kind man. He will be dearly missed in our community. My sincere condolences to the family. Barry Baumann

  • What a tremendous person and host. For many years he hosted the management team of Northwest and later Delta Airlines with grace and style. He will be terribly missed as the weekly gathering at "Leo's" was always looked forward to. Clint Smith
