Obituary

Mary Ann (née Schauerte) Laritz, age 83, of Holland, Ohio, loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023. Born April 13, 1939, Mary Ann was the oldest of two children born to John and Theresa (née Wisnewski) Schauerte. She grew up in Detroit, MI and graduated from Dominican High School. While attending the University of Detroit, she met her future husband, Lanny Joseph Laritz. They were married on May 2, 1959. With their firstborn on the way, the couple moved into their first home in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Mary Ann continued her liberal arts education concentrating on her interest in civil war history and became a substitute teacher. Three children later (Frank, John and Teri), the family moved to Grosse Ile, Michigan. Mary Ann became an aerobics instructor and took up painting. As the children grew, the family spent summers vacationing at various lakes, exploring the Appalachian Trail and civil war battlefields.

In 1981, the family moved to Lakeland, Florida. While there, Mary Ann was a highly successful real estate agent. She continued engaging in her love of the outdoors: gardening, hiking, swimming, and boating. Additional favorite pastimes were tennis, golf, and bridge. Living in Florida enticed Mary Ann and Lanny to buy a condominium on Siesta Key in 1986, which quickly became a favorite family hangout. The family decided to pull up stakes and move to Ohio in 1996. After a short stay in Lima, Ohio, they moved into their home in the Stone Oak Country Club community in Holland, Ohio. Once retired, they would make an annual pilgrimage to the condo in Florida to avoid the cold Ohio winters.

62 years of marriage, 3 children and 9 grandchildren made Mary Ann the family matriarch that everyone knew and loved. She prided herself on helping her family explore their interests and realizing their life goals while being a fun, loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. Grandma was always ready to go bike riding, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, star gazing, or she was up for a rousing game of cards or dominoes.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving children, Frank (Cathleen Pecka) Laritz, John (Jennifer) Laritz, and Teri (Floyd) Absher. Dearest grandmother of Frank, Alyssa, Michael (Marissa), Christine, Daniel, Amelia, Floyd, and Clara. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lanny Joseph Laritz, her grandson Matthew, and her parents John Anthony Schauerte and Therese (nee Wisnewski) Schauerte.
