Obituary

Mary Dale Lowe Dickerson passed away on August 4, 2026 in Wyandotte, Michigan overlooking Grassy Island, Ontario, Canada at sunset. Mary Dale was born to Ike Lowe and Edith “Reid”  Ramsaur Lowe in March, 1944 in Portsmouth, VA while her father was in the signal core. The family soon moved to Charlotte, NC where she attended East Mecklenburg High School. Mary Dale attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia. A chance meeting in Atlanta introduced  her to Stuart “Jim” Dickerson whom she would marry in August 1966 after she graduated with a degree in education. The couple would live in Atlanta, GA, El Paso, TX and Seattle, WA while her husband was in the Army. Jim would then have a career in steel production which led to the family moving to Birmingham, AL, St. Clairsville, OH and New Boston, MI.

Mary Dale was considered a stay at home mom but she was a very active volunteer and community member. Her volunteer work was a large part of her life from Girl Scout Leader, Boy  Scout Leader, PTA, P.E.O, Soroptimist International, libraries, women’s shelters and any activity her children were  involved in. Starting in 2000, she knitted over 150 baby blankets for Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and she loved that the blankets she made went all over the world.

Mary Dale’s hobbies were reading, crafting, and collecting promotional products she did not need or even want. She was also a charter member of the annual Dickerson Beach Week starting in 1974 which has spread to include over sixty family members that adored her.

Surviving family members include her children Dawn (Ray) Perry of Wake Forest, NC, Andy (Amy) of Orient, OH and Scott (Alison) Dickerson of Cleves, OH. Grandchildren include Jasmine, Anthony, Jack, Ike, Stuart, Aiden, Eli, Corbin and  Emma. Her great-grandchildren are Lily, Zayn and Sawyer. Her sister Beth (David) Lee of Waxhaw, NC, multiple brothers in laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews will feel her loss especially when there is a stuffed animal to be mended or game of maneuver. Mary Dale was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, grandson Hank Perry, brother-in-law Gregg Dickerson and nephews, Eric Dickerson and Hewitt Dickerson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests school supplies purchased for your local school. Visitation and memorial will be held on Saturday, September 12, from one to three at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home in Flat Rock, MI.
