Obituary

Sarah Nell Lucas, 83, of Taylor, Michigan, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025. Her family surrounded her with song and prayer as she passed into Glory. Sarah was born on February 18th, 1941 to Bert and Anna Mae Flynn in Oakman, Alabama. Sarah was born blind and overcame many obstacles throughout her life. As a young girl, her family relocated to King Road in Michigan, where she made lifelong friendships. She received her diploma from Flat Rock High School and earned her Business Degree through Michigan Commission for the Blind while devoting her life to raising her 3 children: Connie, Janet, and Leonard. In 1988, Sarah married the love of her life, Paul Lucas, whom she grew up with as childhood friends on King Road. Sarah and Paul went on to enjoy 36 years together traveling, spreading the Gospel, and spoiling their grandchildren. In 2004, after 24 years, Sarah retired from TACOM where she had owned and operated her own business, “Sarah’s Snack Bar,” through Michigan Commission for the Blind’s Business Enterprise Program. After retirement, Sarah focused on spreading God’s Word.

As a teenager, Sarah asked Jesus into her heart and dedicated her life to sharing the Word of the Lord with everyone she met. Throughout Sarah’s life, she made and distributed thousands of recordings of sermons throughout the country and organized countless Bible study gatherings. She graduated from Grace & Glory Bible College as an Ordained Minister in 2012 after many years of correspondence study. It was Sarah’s hope that she could be an example to everyone of the love of God.

Sarah was preceded in death by her spouse Paul Lucas; parents Bert and Anna Mae (Worthy) Flynn; brothers William Lowery, Carrell Flynn, Sammy Flynn; sisters Lora Jean Fiore, Doris Morton, Barbara Eagle. She is survived by her three children: Connie (Gary) Strother, Janet (Albert) Psujek, Leonard (Loretta) Eagle; three step-children: Paulette Shumaker, Carol (Bob) Woonton, Robin (Dan DeLong) Lucas; 9 grandchildren: Sarah (Isaac), Eric (Denise), Amber (Matt), Racheal (Jordan), Jennifer (Scot), Steve (Amanda), Nickolas (Danielle), Britney (Eli), Timothy (Catherine); 8 step-grandchildren: Joe (Ellen), Caitlyn (Cameron), Rebecca, Christina, Mark, Bobby, Stephanie (Eric), Gloria; 29 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister Dorothy Murley; brother Phillip Flynn; and many nieces and nephews.

  • Sarah is now in the loving arms of God, back with Paul and full sight restored. She was the most loving woman I've ever known. Sad however, she never looked at any of the "step" family is anything other than just family Joe
