Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward (Ed) Curtis Miller, who departed this life on April 20th, 2026, at the age of 63. Born in Detroit, MI on January 23, 1963, Ed spent his final moments taking in the beauty of Ford Lake from his tiki deck, his favorite place to be.

Ed was a beloved fiancée, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. He didn’t know a stranger. Ed was friendly to all who crossed his path, always leaving them with a smile on their face thanks to his infectious good mood and perpetual optimism. His love for people was only surpassed by his love for life.

Ed lived life on his terms, the way he wanted… which was making sure everyone he loved was happy and taken care of. He was selfless. He’d do anything for anyone. He found great joy in spending time on the water, living by the lake, golfing, and boating. He was the consummate “Pontoon Captain”. His favorite times were when he was entertaining family and friends. Whether it be taking his nieces and nephews tubing or making sure his guests had the best view of the sunset from the lake. Being at Ed’s felt like being on vacation. He was famous for always having a red solo cup in hand overflowing with ice and a Diet Coke or Miller Lite.  The only other place that came close to the lake for Ed was Las Vegas. He and Rhonda would take several trips each year and had plans to possibly retire there someday. The only other significant “roll of the dice” to mention was his affinity for a good game of Yahtzee.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Lisa, his grandparents, Stella and Edward M. Miller, Katherine Lewick, and his mother-in-law, Peggy Ritter, as well as several aunts and uncles and cousins.

Left to honor Ed’s memory are his fiancée and the love of his life for 37 years, Rhonda Ritter, his devoted parents, Edward J. and Georgianna; and siblings Larry M. (Jenny). Kellie (Dave) Teska, and Misty (Doug) Karn, in-laws Ray (Sharon) Ritter, Donna (Mark) Marohl, Beth Vaughn, Chris (Bob) Giesting. Although Ed didn’t have any children, he felt as though his nieces and nephews were ‘his kids’ and will lovingly be remembered by: Larry (Jessie), Elizabeth (Mitch) Farnum, Nicole (Scott) Conlin, Bradley (Alexis) Teska, Kyle, Brooke (Brendan) soon to be Koziol, Summer Karn, Sienna Karn, Joshua (Julia) Marohl, Hayley (Ryan) Wunder, Kyle (Becky) Marohl, Alayna (Cole) McCurry, McKenzie (Eric) Shalosky, Blake Giesting, and Alex Vaughn, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews and so many good friends.

Ed’s unwavering enthusiasm and love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. Although Ed is no longer physically with us, his legacy of kindness, positive energy, and joy for life will continue to inspire us all.

For those who would like to honor Ed, we believe he would be most happy if you chose to donate toward St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Or, simply take a moment to remember Ed fondly, say a prayer for him and his loved ones and possibly raise a red solo cup in his honor.

The family is holding a small private viewing for immediate family only and is planning a larger celebration of life gathering for all to attend at The Belleville Yacht Club on May 30th, 2026. The time for the event will be announced soon.
