Obituary

James McGinnes, born on May 21, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 4, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan. He was 85 years old.

James dedicated his career to the automotive industry as an industrial engineer, where he contributed significantly to advancements in the field over many decades. His work ethic and commitment were admired by colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional life, James was a man of many passions. He found immense joy in golfing and cherished every opportunity to spend time on the green. Above all, he treasured moments with his family, always placing their happiness at the forefront of his life. James was also known for his love of dancing, a pursuit he enjoyed throughout his life.

In his younger years, James was an avid soccer player, a sport he continued to engage with by coaching and sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. His legacy in both sports and family will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Agnes McGinnes; his children Neil McGinnes and wife Katie, Gail Harris and husband Robert, and Karen McGinnes; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Maegan Harris, Kyle Harris, Tyler Harris, Mairi McGinnes, and Malcolm McGinnes. He also leaves behind his dear brother, William McGinnes. James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Cornelius McGinnes and Rebecca (Malcom) McNeill also, sisters Rita Hatcher and June Philip.

James's life was marked by love, dedication, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
