Jo Anne Alise Mauritho, 83, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at her residence in Riverview, Michigan. Jo Anne was born in Howell, Michigan to Lloyd and Beatrice Cook. Jo Anne graduated from Michigan State University and in 1948 she married Russell R. Mauritho, Jr., a war veteran from Wyandotte. After raising her four children Jo Anne had a successful career and retired as an administrator with the State of Michigan. Jo Anne was a wonderful mother and a full-time homemaker in every sense of the word, volunteering at her childrens’ schools and in their classrooms, serving as a Cub Scout den mother, participating on field trips and numerous fundraising activities. She was deeply involved in the PTA and was president of the PTA Council. Jo Anne was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for her family and costumes for the Riverview High School theatre. She regularly enlisted her young children and their friends to make cookies for fundraisers – tons of cookies. Still, she found time to be a volunteer with whatever organization needed her many talents. Jo Anne was an Election Board supervisor, chairwoman for the March of Dimes, chairwoman of the early Riverview Days, and in 2007 was celebrated as the Senior Volunteer of the Year by the City of Riverview. She enjoyed mentoring and volunteering in the library at Memorial Elementary for many years. Jo Anne also enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises and other fun outings with her children and relatives. Jo Anne will be remembered by those who knew her for her love, ambition, volunteer efforts, special talents, kindness, and dependability.
