Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Virginia Marsiglia, who departed this life on July 19, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on February 4, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away in Belleville, Michigan.

Joan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose life was enriched by her love for her family and her passion for gardening. Her home blossomed with vibrant flowers and thriving vegetable gardens, reflecting her nurturing spirit and appreciation for nature’s beauty. Roses, in particular, held a special place in her heart.

Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joan found joy in being a mother and especially a grandmother, showering her family with unconditional love and kindness. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family as she cared for her ailing husband, Simon Marsiglia, and others in need with exceptional compassion and dedication.

Joan was also known for her generosity and selflessness, supporting over 50 charities throughout her life. Her talent for crocheting was not only a personal pastime but also a means of giving back to the community, as she lovingly crafted baby blankets to donate to those in need.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Simon Marsiglia; her parents, Frank and Lillian Kozlowski; two sisters; and a brother, Joan leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance. She is survived by her children: Simon (Lawanna) Marsiglia, Michael Marsiglia, Sue (Bill) Fern, Marc Marsiglia, Chris (Christy) Marsiglia, and Roger (Jeff) Alford. She was a much loved grandmother of Michael, Jason (Amanda), Justin (Michaela), Lauren Myers, Alyssa (Eric) Behnke, Ryan (Crystal) Mullins, Joshua, Stephanie (Justin) Grimes and Tyler. She was a loving great-grandmother of Madeleine, Jacob, Lillian, Lucas, Chloe, Jaxon, Kendra, Cameron and Taylor.

Joan’s life was a testament to love, generosity, and devotion. Her gentle spirit and loving nature will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty she so dearly loved.
