Obituary

The words “Well done my good and faithful servant” were surely heard as Melba Loraine Marentette passed from this world to the next on Thursday, March 2, 2023. On January 15, 1938, Melba was born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Porter) Wallace in Universal (Bunsen), Indiana.  Melba was the youngest of FOURTEEN children and was preceded in death by her brothers, sisters and her youngest son, Michael.

Melba is survived by her son, Jerry (Stacie) Marentette, her grandchildren, Shea (Zoey), and Emily and her three great grandchildren; Braxton, Hadleigh, and baby Ryleigh. Melba is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Maria and dozens of nieces of nephews who she loved as though they were her own children…..and they know that, because they could feel it.

As a single mother of two young children, Melba worked in the mortgage business for many years while raising her boys. Melba loved to golf and bowl and was on many bowling leagues through the years. Above all, though, Melba simply personified LOVE in the most beautiful of ways. She loved so well and she was loved dearly in return. The most important thing in Melba’s life was her family, her extended family….. and friends who became family.  There was no greater gift to her than to be surrounded by her family. The highlight of the year for Melba was the “Wallace Family Reunion” held every summer for over 30 years where she would get to visit with the family & friends from near and far.

A Celebration of Life service for Melba will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 11am at the Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. (30895 W. Huron River Dr., Flat Rock, MI  48134). All are welcome.

We also have some time there from 9am -11am to welcome and gather with friends and family, prior to the service, for anyone who wishes to join us.

In loving memory of Melba, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Starfish Family Services.

  • My deepest condolences for the loss of an amazing woman. Melba was my first boss at Advance Mortgage and she was a tough act to follow, as a boss and a person. I've known Melba for my entire life as she and my mom, Sarah (Cobello) Reynolds, were very close friends since...well, forever. Thank you to Jerry for somehow finding me to let me know of her passing. I will have to find a way to break the news to my mom. My love and support go out to you and your family during this surely difficult time. Linda Reynolds
