Obituary

Michael "Mike" Anthony Milican, born on December 16, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on February 14, 2026, in Dearborn, Michigan, at the age of 68.

Throughout his life, Mike followed Christ with unwavering faith and lived his life as a humble fisherman, both of the sea and the souls.  Whether casting his line into a river, lake or preparing his catch in the kitchen, he found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. His affection for fishing was so profound that he even took his fishing pole along on his honeymoon, a testament to his unwavering dedication to the sport he cherished.

For over 30 years, Mike devoted himself to children's ministry, touching countless lives with his warmth and compassion. He embraced many as part of his extended family through his ministry, providing guidance and love to numerous adopted children and grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Milican and Beverly Davie, and his brother, David Milican. He is remembered with love by his devoted wife of 36 years, Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Milican. He also leaves behind his cherished children, Tammy (Tom) Strong and Jerome Shorkey; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who were the light of his life.

He is survived by his sister, Alice (Kenny) Setser, and brothers Rodney Milican, James (Karen) Milican, Kevin (Jim) Milican and numerous nieces and nephews, who all held a special place in his heart.

Mike's legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unyielding enthusiasm for the things he held dear. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.

  • Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. I wanted to share a story about Mike that has always stayed with me. We were fishing on the St. Joseph pier one day when a grandma was there with her grandchildren. They couldn’t believe it when Mike caught a huge salmon. Mike immediately let the kids hold the fish, and we took a picture of the grandma and her grandchildren with it. It absolutely made their day. Later, there were some guys nearby struggling to catch anything. Mike noticed they were using the wrong bait, so he gave them some of his shrimp. Before long, they were catching fish too. That was Mike—always helping others. He had such a passion for fishing and truly loved teaching people how to catch the big ones. I really enjoyed pier fishing with Mike, and he will surely be missed. —John Frederick Mike Milican
