Obituary

MARANO, Mona M., age 87, of Taylor, December 22, 2019. Beloved wife of Dominick Marano. Loving mother of John Marano and Anne (David) Lumley. Dearest grandmother of Zachary Marano and Rory Lumley. She is also survived by her sisters Joan Johnson-Meyer and Deanna Matthews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil Martti and Vianna Woodbury, sisters Jolene Borne and Toni Levine. Mona was born in Gile, WI in 1932. Her family moved when she was a young child to Republic, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where her father gained work in the iron ore mines. Her family moved again when she was twelve years old, first to Ecorse, MI and then settling in Wyandotte, MI. She graduated from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School. She started her work life at the Wyandotte School Board as a high school intern and took a full-time position as a secretary at Wyandotte Chemical Co. upon her graduation. She made a move to Ford Motor Company, working at the Rouge Office Building. It was there she met the love of her life, Dominick. They married in 1959 and purchased their first home in Taylor, MI. It was there that they would start a family and begin to raise their children. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, remaining active with her high school friends via Card Club and Wyandotte Art Club. She expressed her creative side through her artwork, working with multiple media – oil painting, watercolors, charcoal, pastels and sculpture. Her handiwork was proudly exhibited at the Wyandotte Street Art Fair. She was active at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Southgate, serving as a Sunday School teacher, VBS nursery caregiver, Bible Study class host, writing cards to shut-ins and as Secretary of the Board of Church Properties. As her children grew older, she re-entered the workforce as a temporary secretary for Kelly Services, working multiple interesting positions. She enjoyed seeing her children succeed in school, establish careers, get married and start their own families.
