Condolences

  • An old soldier and brother I served with so many years ago; an unbreakable friendship that has lasted 44 years. Oh the shenanigans we’d get ourselves up to and the stories we’ve told a hundred times or more over the years. Some of the crazy shit we’d get into and walk away from would make for a good sitcom; depending on your perspective. That beer fight in the early morning hours in a torrential downpour on Padre Island after the tent collapsed. The road trip to San Antonia and bar hopping along the river walk. Killing rattlesnakes for dinner at Camp Bullis because we didn’t want the Air Force SP’s to think we were wimps (that’s a PC statement, lol). The time I drove the brand new MP sedan into a ditch because of an appendicitis attack and the first person to show up at the hospital is Rick, saying... What the fuck, dude, at least the sedan is okay. The road trips to the old MP soldier reunions. You and my dog enjoying quality time fishing on the lake that is my backyard. A lot of belly aching laughs over the years, for sure. No other brother I’d rather have covering my 6 when the shit hit the fan. I will miss you dearly SGT Rick Manley. Keep your .45 clean and your boots spit shined. See you again at the big guard-mount in the sky, brother. Art Crow
  • I was heartbroken to hear of Richard's passing. I served with Richard in the US Army as a Military Policeman in South Korea, Pusan city in 1975-1976. Rick and I were in a unit that provided security for tarin, trains and other forms of transportation of military materials. We were often in touch on FB and phone calls and had planned to visit with one another when the virus had subsided. I so regret we were not able to meet in person after 44-45 years. My thoughts and prayers to Richards family and friends. Rest in peace my brother. Michael L. Shumaker
