Obituary

MOOSE, Russell D. age 63, of Southgate, November 29, 2020. Beloved husband of Tamara Friendship-Moose. Loving father of Megan (Kyle) Decker, Jennifer (Steven) Richardson, Nicole Nance, and Rickey Nance Jr. Dearest grandfather of Calla, Boden, Lydia, Luke, Kaybri, Kenzy, Aliah, David, Lyrrick, Sandra, Chaz and Charlotte. He is also survived by his father, Russell A. (Karen) Moose, his brothers, Daniel and Tom Moose, and sisters, Ellen (Mark) Speagle and Lisa Hardy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Cheney-Moose. Russell was a member of the Great Lakes Golf Club.Rusty was a loving husband, Dad, Papa Rusty, brother, son, uncle, friend and neighbor. For his entire life, he enjoyed adventure and fun. When he was young, he enjoyed go-cart racing. He liked speed and mechanics. We have heard stories of times when he’d wreck the go-cart but then get right back in the car—scrapes, bruises and all—and race again. Some may say he was stubborn, but we prefer determined. This determination followed him throughout his life. He fell down and got right back up again. He never let a setback, health issue or disability hold him back from doing what he loved. It was in his nature to press on, and he did so, with grit. Golf. His passion. His favorite sport. Being on the golf course brought him tremendous joy throughout his life. When his girls were born, he made sure to bring fun and adventure into their lives, as well. They traveled, rode bikes, went to fun events, and visited family and friends. They made a trip to Cedar Point an annual adventure and created memories his girls cherish. He traveled many, many miles to see their games, dances, holidays, weddings, baby births, birthday celebrations, etc., and never let distance be an obstacle. He did the same for his grandchildren. He dearly loved them, and they adored him. He made an immeasurable impression on their lives. He retired from Great Lakes Steel (United States Steel) after 30 devoted years. He found lifelong friends and golf buddies at the mill. He was hardworking and diligent—always working on a project. Generosity came naturally to him and he was willing to offer a helping hand everywhere he went. He believed in our loving God and had genuine faith. He will be dearly missed. “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands.”—Psalm 91:1-2, 4, 9-12.
