On Thursday, May 14, 2020, Edwin Charles Neal II (Colonel), husband and father of 2 daughters, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family.Ed was born on October 4, 1948 in Akron, Ohio to Edwin and Margaret Neal. He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, and Brother Terry Neal. Ed is survived by his sister, Connie Neal. On October 15, 1971, he married Christine Ann Neal. They raised two daughters, Shannon Kelly (Rick Kelly) and Kari Patrick (Ryan Patrick). Ed had 3 grandchildren, Jake Chamberlin (who he helped bring into this world and loved like a son), and 2 step grandchildren, Quinlan and Solana Kelly (who he met later in life, and took into his heart). Ed had a passion for people, and dedicated his life to helping others. He has served as an undercover narcotics investigator for the Wayne County Sheriffs and retired as Police Sergeant for Brownstown Twp after almost 30 years. He was on the SWAT Team for 18 years, Downriver Mutual Aid Underwater Rescue for 15 years, volunteer fire for 20 years, and served on the National Disaster Medical Team (MI-DMAT) for the last 34 years. He was a warrior to say the least, and risked his life to help others his entire life, and we are so proud! He was also a dare devil and comedian. If you met him, you would not forget him. He loved with all of his heart, and was a fierce protector of his family. Ed would not want us to mourn his death, but instead, celebrate his life in true Ed fashion! So grab that Guinness, raise your glass, have a laugh, and toast a man that will live on forever in all of our hearts and memories.May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warmth upon your face,The rains fall soft upon your fields,And until we meet againMay God hold you in the palm of his hand.

I have great memories of him and his smile. A very kind man who seemed to always make you happy when you had conversations with him. I can't remember a memory of him when he wasn't smiling. He will be missed by many. brandon england

Chris, our deepest condolences to you and the family, Ed was one of a kind and will not be forgotten. He was one of the first guys to "look out" for me a s a Rookie starting out. I am so sorry for the lost of your beloved husband father and grandfather. He was such a nice man to sit and talk to. I'll never forget that when I first started meeting him at family functions I would say hi Uncle Ed. Because that's what John said. And then he said we don't say hi....... we hug in this family.
