Obituary

Jonathan Owen Neighbors, born on March 19, 1951, in Detroit, passed away on February 5, 2026, in Trenton at the age of 74.

Jonathan was a man of many passions, finding joy in the great outdoors through hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours working in his garage and tending to his garden, where he found solace and satisfaction. His love for racing "the Grub" was well-known among those who knew him best.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Owen and Evelyn Neighbors. Jonathan is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Neighbors, who stood by his side throughout their 53 years together. He leaves behind his cherished children: Christine (Garett) Painter, Tim (Wendy Johnson) Neighbors, and Jonathan (Laura Ghist) Neighbors. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Caroline, Matthew, Jenna, Abigail, Evelyn, and Hannah.

Jonathan is also survived by his brother, David Neighbors, who shared in the memories and adventures of their youth.

Jonathan will be remembered fondly by his family and friends for his warmth, his dedication to his hobbies, and the love he shared with those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Donations in lieu of flowers will go directly to kids hunts at Trophy Ranch.

Condolences

  • Sincere condolences for the family. May you find solace and comfort in this difficult time. Belinda Hudson Dye
  • Jon was my first friend in the newspaper trade from day one he drove me home in his beloved camero fondly named the Grub. Our friendship lasted over 55 years I enjoyed working with him and he persuaded me to start deer hunting. I know how much he loved his wife Becki and how proud he was of his children. Jon will be greatly missed. Dennis Adams
  • We are mourning the loss of our dear brother in law, Jon. Sending our love at this difficult time. Praying you find comfort in our Lord and Savior! Psalm 34:18 Jim and Lisa Earley
  • For 55 years Jon has been my brother, friend, confidant, banter buddy and so much more. Will not be the same when I come to Michigan. We had so many great laughs together. You will be in heart always, Love MUD (only you!) Mary Earley
  • I am so very happy that I will always have my memories of my Uncle Jon. Too many stories to share on here but I'll always remember Uncle Jon touching my feet and saying Hey E, when he came home from work early in the morning to find me sleeping on the hide-a-bed while visiting from NC. He thought me how to play pressroom Rummy, and we had countless conversations sitting around the kitchen table or in the garage. I'll cherish my memories forever, until we meet again. Emily Taylor
