Thelma Jane Nickell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Woodhaven, Michigan, at the age of 79. Born on August 19, 1946, in Marion, Ohio, Thelma's life was a testament to love, faith, and family.
Throughout her life, Thelma dedicated herself to her family, finding immense joy and purpose in her roles as a wife and mother. Her marriage to her beloved husband, Ronald Nickell, spanned 54 beautiful years until his passing on December 19, 2023. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, creating a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
Thelma's warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel like part of her family, welcoming friends and strangers alike with open arms and a generous heart. Her fun-loving spirit and caring nature left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have shared in her life.
A devoted member of the Gilead Baptist Church, Thelma's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Her involvement in the church community was a source of strength and inspiration, reflecting her deep commitment to her beliefs and her desire to serve others.
Thelma is preceded in death by her cherished husband, Ronald Nickell, and her six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her loving children: Cheryl (Steve) Lowisz, Ron (Gina) Nickell, and Karen Nickell. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren: Lauren Lowisz (Brian) Halapi, Stephen (Carlie) Lowisz, Courtney Grubaugh, Cole (Breanna) Nickell, Trent Nickell, Dominick Sligar, Mackenzie Sligar, Wade Nickell, and Kace Nickell; and her six great-grandchildren: DeAndre' Madkin, Colson, Raelynn Lowisz, Sophia Lowisz, Gabriella Lowisz, and Mavric Stinson. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Sharon Osborne, Brenda Osborne, Ruby Nickell, and Errika Kwokaski, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Thelma's life during visitation on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. A service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Michigan Memorial Park.
