Obituary

Leslie William Pedersen, also known as Les by those who knew and loved him, was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Les passed away on January 14, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 79. Born on February 7, 1945, in Highland Park, Michigan, Les lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication.

Les worked as an operating engineer in construction. He was a proud member of the Operating Engineer Local 324 in Melvindale for an impressive 55 years, where his commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and community.

A devoted Lutheran, Les was very active in his church, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Northville. Here he found joy and purpose in serving others. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army, embodying the values of honor and duty throughout his life.

Les had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests. He loved bowling, playing cards, and going to casinos. He was also a vibrant presence at the Livonia Senior Center, where he made many friends and shared countless memories.

Above all, Les treasured the time spent traveling with his beloved wife, Sharon, with whom he shared nearly 40 wonderful years. Together, they explored new places and created lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew them.

Les is preceded in death by his parents, Orla and Wanda Pedersen; grandparents, Leslie and Myrtle Edwards, and William and Kamma Pedersen; sister, Karen Warren; and brothers-in-law, Jim Kemp and Neil Begin.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children, Liz (Steve) Downey, Les (Joy) Pedersen, Bill (Norma) Pedersen, Sandy (Justin) Zill, Chad (Dee) Hartoon, Emily (Josh) Patterson, and Corrie Kowek; and 13 grandchildren who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his sisters, Joyce Kemp and Lynn Begin; brothers, Orla Pedersen and Bruce (Dee) Pedersen; sister-in-law, Gloria (Glenn) Eicholtz; and many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A service to celebrate Les's life will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery.
