Obituary

Walter S. Piwok, born April 4, 1947, in Wyandotte, Michigan, passed away on July 23, 2024, in Woodhaven, Michigan, at the age of 77.

Walter dedicated many years of his life working as a Switchman on the railroad, where he found great joy and satisfaction. He was a man of many passions, including tending to his garden, cooking fantastic meals, and enjoying good food. Walter’s love for his children and grandchildren was profound, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he was a huge people person who always made those around him feel at ease. Walter was a caring friend and a reliable shoulder to lean on for anyone in need.

Preceded in death by his beloved daughter Jennifer Piwok, his brother James Piwok, and his parents Walter and Genevieve, Walter's memory will forever be cherished by those who survive him. He leaves behind his devoted spouse, Donna; his loving daughter Lori (Bill Martin) Piwok; his dear grandchildren Cierra and Caden; his sister Geri (the late Tom) Brown; and his sister-in-law Janice Piwok. Walter will also be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Walter touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, and humor. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

  • No better words can sum up the kind of person Wally was...those that knew him, and experienced his friendship, love, generosity, and humor will understand how true and applicable they describe how he went thru life... The man, the myth, the legend... Thanks for the laughs, the smiles, cooking ideas, and for the long list of everything else you did to help me see a different side of life. Love you and miss you already... Gary Uncle Wally

  • All of my fondest childhood memories included Mr. Piwok, a.k.a Bodyweight. There was no one else like him. I am grateful that he was my neighbor. I will think of him anytime I think of my childhood! There is nothing I can say to ease your grief, but you will be in my prayers and Mr. Piwok will forever be in my memories. Jenny (Cosgrove) Vitale

  • Thank you Wally for your laughter and the memories through the years. You were a man of kindness and caring for everyone, especially your family, will never be forgotten. You were certainly one of a kind. Your Lord has you now, as you walk by His side, sharing smiles and talking about your wonderful gardens. I know you will watch over Donna, and Lori, Cierra and Caden from above. I share in your sorrow to the entire Piwok family. Wally certainly left a legacy. May God be with all of you during this most difficult time and with that, may you find peace. With love and God's blessings, Diane Diane M. - Kepich Lawrence
