Obituary
Billy Joe Ratliff, age 84, of Canton, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family. He was born on June 20, 1941, in Ashland, KY.
Billy was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent his career at the steel mill, where he eventually retired. Though he once dreamed of becoming a nurse, his true calling was caring for those he loved. He was a deeply loving person who always put his family first.
He is survived by his two children, Billy Joe Ratliff Jr. and Lisa (Don) Baumer; his cherished grandchildren, Brandon (Deanna) Baumer, Cassandra (John) LaValley, Caitlin (Ryan) Harrison, Alexis (Juston) Bastion, Amanda (Joshua) Franklin, Cheyenne Ratliff, and Cierra Ratliff; and his adored great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Aria, Hazel, Beckett, and Chandler. He is survived by his siblings, Bobby Ratliff and Janet Jenkins. Along with many loving nieces and nephews whom he cherished dearly.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Manie (Murray) and Bert Ratliff, and his siblings Lillian Douglas, Beatrice Boyd, Irene Bordes, Martha Salisbury and Harlan Ratliff.
He will be remembered for his love of music—especially Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Madonna — and his love of dancing, often bringing joy and energy to those around him. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, classic television shows, and warm summer days spent outdoors. He had a playful spirit and was known as a jokester, always bringing smiles to those around him.
Above all, Billy treasured time with his family. His presence, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A service to celebrate Billy’s life will be held at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, on Thursday April 2nd, 2026
