Obituary
Gerald "Jerry" Rykwalder, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on August 21, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, Jerry lived a life filled with love, dedication, and simple joys.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Rykwalder; his brother, Michael Rykwalder; his sister, Joanne Jenkins; and his cherished fur companion, Mijo and Harley.
Jerry’s memory lives on through his devoted and loving wife of nearly 60 years, Marilyn, who stood by his side through all of life's journeys. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children and grandchildren: Judy (Ron) Christie, Cindy (Michael) Furlong, and Dawn (Roy) Orta. He was a proud grandfather to Michael, David, Nathan, Matthew, Jordan, Brittany (J.P.), Emily, and R.J., and a doting great-grandfather to Caleb, Bryson, Addie, Bane, and Kanan. His sisters, Maryanne (Michael) Debiak and Susan (Ron) Beaudrie, along with his nephew Larry (Lisa) Stanley, will forever cherish his memory.
Jerry spent his career as a dedicated pipeline operator for Exxon Mobil, where he worked diligently to provide for his family. Outside of work, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly walking in the woods with his beloved dogs, Oliver and Dewy.
He will be fondly remembered by many family members and friends who were touched by his kindness and warmth.
