Obituary
Jerry Lee Roth, born on August 3, 1941, in Hollywood, California, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 84. Jerry was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He spent the early years of his career devoted to Detroit Edison, where he worked diligently for 38 years before retiring. Following his retirement, Jerry fulfilled a long-held dream by moving to North Carolina and running a charming bed and breakfast, a venture that enriched his life for 17 wonderful years.
Jerry's life was marked by an adventurous spirit and a profound love for the outdoors. He was an avid sailor who participated in 13 exhilarating races from Port Huron to Mackinaw. His passion for travel took him on many road trips, where he captured the beauty of nature through photography. Jerry also enjoyed hiking, biking, and spending time by the water, which brought him great joy and peace.
A dedicated sports enthusiast, Jerry was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings hockey, and the University of Michigan. He cherished moments shared with his church community and was known for always keeping up with the latest technology, earning him the affectionate title of "Techie" among his friends and family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sr. and Marie Roth, and his brother, John Roth. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ellen Roth; his children, David Roth, Misty Phillippi, and Steve (Oana) Roth; step-children Christian Williams and Lana (David) Gawrych; and grandchildren Tyler, Conner, Payton, Austin, Ian, Izzy, Lessa, Aaron, Miles, and Mason. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda (Tim) Frank and Harold Roth, Jr., along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Church, a community close to Jerry's heart. Jerry's legacy of love, exploration, and friendship will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
