Obituary

Karen Madeline Retan, born on January 22, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, in Taylor, Michigan, at the age of 80. She was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a warm and loving home.

Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She delighted in going to the casino, where the excitement always brought a smile to her face. A lover of literature, she spent many hours engrossed in Amish books. Her passion for travel took her to various places, but it was up north that truly held her heart; it was her happy place where she found peace and tranquility.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved sisters Mildred, Patricia, and Audrey, her brother Chet, and her sister-in-law Janet. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Retan, who stood by her side through all of life’s journeys. She leaves behind her cherished children, Karrie (Terry) Owens and Dean (Maria) Retan, who will forever hold her love and guidance in their hearts. Her legacy continues with her grandchildren, David, Amanda, and Austin, who were the light of her life. Karen is also survived by her brother George and her dear sisters-in-law, Virginia and Mary.

Karen Madeline Retan will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will remain in our hearts forever.

Condolences

  • I have been friends with Mrs. Retan's daughter Karrie for many years, so her family is a 2nd family to me. Mrs. Retan was always kind and supportive of me throughout the time I knew her. I will always be grateful for that and her presence in my life. She was quick to laugh and I will forever remember her smile. My deepest condolences to her family over this devastating loss. She will be missed, but she will live on in our hearts through happy memories. With love, Jane Jane M Sandecki
