Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert David Ruta, who departed from this world on May 16, 2025, at the age of 29. Born in Dearborn, Michigan, on October 16, 1995.
A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, Robert earned a dual degree in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. His passion for education, innovation and dedication to his craft led him to a fulfilling career as a Mechanical Engineer at Stellantis.
Robert was a man of many passions, always seeking out adventure and living life with purpose and energy. He was deeply committed to physical fitness, enjoying weightlifting, daily training, and snowboarding. His love for soccer ran deep—he was immensely proud to serve as a National Assistant Referee, a role that reflected not just his knowledge of the game but his unwavering dedication to it. Robert’s adventurous spirit carried him far and wide—beneath the surface as a free diver, through the woods as a hunter, across the water while boating, and even into the sky as a paramotor pilot. He approached each new experience with curiosity, courage, and joy. He also had a discerning palate for bourbon, curating a diverse and well-loved collection that reflected his appreciation for craft and tradition. When he wasn't in motion, Robert found quiet focus in a good chess match—he loved the strategy and challenge of the game.
He leaves behind a devoted family who cherished him deeply. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Rachel; his parents, David and Luanne; his siblings, Rachel (Steven) Berlinski, Ryan (Samantha) Ruta, and Kristen (Jon) Galusha; his niece, Emilia; his grandmother, Bernice St. Denis; and his adored cat, Rizzo. He also leaves behind a loving extended family and countless friends who were like family to him.
Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emil and Dorothy Ruta, and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth St. Denis.
Above all, Robert loved deeply and wholeheartedly. He was fiercely devoted to his wife, Rachel—his partner, best friend, and the love of his life. He protected and supported her endlessly and made it his mission to ensure she never wanted for anything. His love extended powerfully to his family and friends, always showing up, always willing to teach, to help, or to simply be present. Whether through a shared hobby, a thoughtful gesture, or a moment of mentorship, Robert touched countless lives with his kindness, loyalty, and generosity. The impact of his spirit will continue to be felt by all who knew him.
