Obituary
Alan James Stevers was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on November 2, 1946, to Harrison and Evelyn (Gartside) Stevers. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Lincoln Park, Michigan, where Alan was raised. Alan graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1964, where he met the love of his life, Mary Cusumano.
Alan attended Central Michigan University (CMU) from 1964 to 1968. At CMU, Alan pursued his passion for baseball, earning varsity letters in 1967 and 1968. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at CMU and later pursued a master's degree from Oakland University.
After graduating from CMU, Alan returned to Lincoln Park and married Mary on April 12, 1969. He began his career in education as a high school English teacher and coach of numerous sports, dedicating 35 years of service to the Farmington Hills and Woodhaven-Brownstown school districts. Alan is remembered as a kind, caring, and relatable educator and mentor by many of the thousands of students he taught and coached over the years. In addition to teaching, Alan also worked as a landscaper for many years.
Alan and Mary relocated to New Boston, Michigan, in 1977, where they built their dream home. Over the next five decades, they raised their two children, Stacy and Geoffrey, and regularly warmly welcomed their grandchildren, Alexis, Dominic, Michal, and Natalia, and great-granddaughter, Sofia. Family was the most important thing to Alan, and his fondest memories were always of the times he spent celebrating, teaching, traveling, and simply being with those he loved.
Alan thoroughly enjoyed reading, fashion, traveling, and cooking. He was also an avid outdoorsman. In addition to baseball and landscaping, he excelled in hunting, golfing, building, and much more. Alan will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and quick-wittedness, which he retained until the very end.
Alan is survived by his wife Mary, his children Stacy (Christopher) and Geoffrey (Malgorzata), grandchildren Alexis (Seth), Dominic, Michal, and Natalia, and great-granddaughter Sofia. He is predeceased by his parents. At his request, no formal service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In the meantime, it is asked that you remember and celebrate Alan’s life through the love, lessons, and wonderful memories that he created with everyone he touched over the years.
