Obituary

SMITH-BULLIS, Betty L., age 91, of New Boston, July 25, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Ralph Smith and the late Clare Bullis. Dearest mother of Lorene (Glennis) Mayne. Dear grandmother of 6 and great-grandmother of 8. She is also survived by her best friend Ernest Teem and her brother Alvin E. Hill. She was preceded in death by her sons Michael James Nadeau and William E. Smith, her step-son Michael P. Smith, her parents William and Ida Hill, her brother Arthur L. Hill, her sister Velma L. Burnham and her best friend Alice Teem. Betty loved her family and friends. She loved to play darts and roller skated in her sixties! She was a very active lady and enjoyed riding her motorcycle. Betty lived in Cheboygan for years and was a cook for the Cheboygan Senior Citizen Center. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was very involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who referred to her as “29” and will be greatly missed by them. Betty was looked at as “mother” by many children in the neighborhood. She will be extremely missed by the entire Bullis and Nadeau family. Her cremation took place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

  • With deep and humble sadness for the entire family, I know you have lost your matriarch and a very very special person. Actually, as I think of it, "loss" is the inappropriate word, because you all have the glow of her imprint on your life and that will never ever leave you. Betty was an exceptionally loving woman and gave freely of her heart to those she cared for. She will be missed by so many, but never lost because of the huge imprint she made on so many. We were better people simply because we new her and were influenced by her, her beautiful smile and sense of laughter. . . . . priceless. Knowing Betty, as I have for so many years, I feel confident she would be saying "Don't feel bad for me, but rather celebrate my life, it was pretty darn good, and I liked and enjoyed every minute I could." I also know of her deep abiding love and gratitude for Lorene and Glennis, in these latter years you have been her strength, her solid, her fountain of love. Oh, how she adored and appreciated you Lorene. Now it's her time to be with some of the others who loved her so, Bill, Ralph, Clare, Velma,Butch, Mary, Alice and of course her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Hill. I have no doubt they have opened their arms and are embracing her now. Family, you will miss her but you have lost nothing, She left you a legacy so rich and deep simply from the graciousness of her touch that it will be with you all (and yes, lots of others as well) for a lifetime. I for one will celebrate my experiences with this wonderful women forever and pray you all find the strength to do the same. Mary Harris
