Obituary
On June 26th 2023, Cody Scott Strickland was called home by the Lord. Cody was 28 years old, born October 30th 1994. Cody was a cancer warrior, who fought tooth and nail to defeat the ugly disease. But more than that, he was a loving son, brother, husband and friend. He is preceded in death by his grandpa John Strickland, fur babies Cain and Rosie Strickland.
He leaves behind his wife Marilyn Strickland, parents Michelle Begin (Rob Lepper) and father Scott Strickland (Heidi Strickland), sister Lilly Beck (Kristopher Beck), brother Tyler, step-sister Samantha Waterbury and Amander Kinser, grandmother Pam Lutke, fur babies Rocco and Copper Strickland, and chosen brothers Dylan Chandler, Josh Nailor, Jake Charron, Hunter Hanson, and Cody Allen.
Cody was many things to many people. His character can’t be summed up into a short paragraph.
He was hardworking. He would get off work and create more work for himself at home, and recruit others to help him once the project turned from small to over the top. He had many projects that ranged from working on his cars, digging a pond, renovating the house and everything in between. He often said “there isn’t enough hours in the day”.
Cody was very outgoing and adventurous. He loved to ride his rzr, his bike, and travel especially to places where he could golf and see the ocean. Cody started golfing at a very young age. He and his dad took trips to golf every year. It was one of the trips he always looked forward to. He loved golf so much he used to say if he could afford it he would retire and live on a golf course. His mom introduced him to the ocean. He loved taking family trips to see the ocean every year where he could fish his heart out, try to catch Moby-Dick, alligators, sharks, anything that crossed his path.
Cody was an intelligent man with a creative mind. He could come up with so many solutions to make things work on the spot. Ask his work friends and they’ll tell you how many times they were instructed to do something one way, it wouldn’t work, but he would find some way to make it work on the spot.
Cody was also a very funny and sarcastic man. Often he laughed at his jokes more than anyone else. He found himself to be absolutely hilarious. He would say to his wife “babe what would you do if you hadn’t married a funny man”. While some days his jokes were very dark, he made sure to laugh all the way through his fight with cancer. He didn’t let cancer define him and take away the fire in his eyes.
Cody loved life so much. There wasn’t much he wanted to do that he didn’t do. In his eyes if there was a will, there was a way. Some things weren’t always safe or recommended, but he did them anyway. He lived life on the edge and many times alongside his chosen brothers and many friends.
Cody grew up with his little sister Lilly. He used to sneak her out of her crib and they’d get themselves into trouble. He called his sister his partner in crime. Together they made so many memories. He was very protective of her and encouraged her to set goals and chase after them.
He loved the little family he created with his wife and fur babies. Together they bought their dream property, turned their house into a home, traveled, and made many memories. He loved all his family and friends very deeply.
There is a lot more that can be said and will continue to be said. Cody left a legacy in many of our hearts and he’d want to be kept alive through memory sharing and many laughs. Don’t stop saying his name. And don’t stop living life. For him, live your life to the fullest.
