Obituary
Darwin Orlo Schoolmaster, a devoted family man and lover of life's simple joys, passed away on May 27, 2026, in Taylor, Michigan. He was 88 years old.
Born on July 12, 1937, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Darwin lived a life full of rich experiences and adventure. He spent 36 dedicated years working at the University of Michigan, during which time he fostered many cherished relationships.
Darwin had a passion for travel, exploring new places and cultures with a keen curiosity. He also found great joy in visiting casinos, where he enjoyed the thrill of chance. One of his favorite pastimes was camping with a close-knit group of friends, sharing stories and laughter around the campfire. His love for the water led him to be an active participant in the Fireside Yacht Club, where he spent many happy days sailing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts.
He is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Phyllis Laskey, and his parents, Orlo and Viola Schoolmaster.
Darwin leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rose Marie Schoolmaster, and his son, Brian (Tracie) Schoolmaster. He was a proud grandfather to Crystal Schoolmaster and Deborah (Amadeo), and a caring step-grandparent to Kody MacDonald and Tanya Delasandro. His great-grandchildren, Caiden Flemming, Wesley Racho, Jasiah Bates, Taylor Bates, and Mila Bates, were a source of immense pride and joy.
Darwin's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Darwin to the Children’s Burn Unit at University of Michigan or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
