Obituary
David Gordon Schultz, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023, in Monroe, Michigan. Born on August 14, 1936, in Wyandotte, Michigan, David led a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family, education, and community.
David earned a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University, where he was a standout athlete, serving as a three-year captain of the cross country team and member of the track & field team. His passion for education led him to a rewarding career as a Social Studies teacher, administrator, and coach at Southgate and New Boston Huron Schools.
David was a beloved husband to the late Carolyn "Bunny" Schultz (Johnson) and a devoted father to his sons Kurt Schultz (Sandy Dungan), Eric Schultz, and Chris Schultz (Christy Moscheck). He was a proud and active grandfather to Dalton Schultz, Christopher Schultz, and Catherine Schultz. He was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Bernice Schultz, his brother Paul Schultz, and his granddaughter Rosemarie Schultz.
A lifelong Lutheran, David was actively involved in his church and community. He was an avid runner in his younger years, having completed three marathons, and enjoyed golfing, reading, and spending time with his friends in Florida. David was known for his storytelling, never meeting a stranger, and his love for track & field. He was also a die-hard Michigan State Spartan fan.
David's life will be celebrated with a visitation at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, May 30, from 2 pm to 8 pm, with a time for sharing memories at 7 pm. A Christian Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 31, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waltz, Michigan. He will lie in state at 10:30 am, with the service beginning at 11:00 am and a luncheon immediately following.
David will be remembered for his dedication to education, his athletic achievements, and his unwavering love for his family and community. His legacy of kindness, enthusiasm for life, and love for storytelling will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Waltz in David’s memory.
