Obituary

Diane Marie Smith, born on February 6, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, in Carleton, Michigan, at the age of 75. Diane was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose generosity and warmth touched everyone who knew her.

Married to the love of her life, James Smith, for 43 wonderful years, Diane traveled extensively across the United States with him. Together, they explored the beauty of California and shared a special affection for Corpus Christi, Texas. Her love for hummingbirds was a testament to her appreciation for life's delicate wonders.

Diane was a devoted mother who cherished her role as a loving parent. Her home was a haven for her children and their friends, a place filled with laughter and acceptance. She was more than a mother; she was a confidante and a friend to Cheryl Smith, Kenneth (Denise) Smith, and James (Angie) Smith. Her grandchildren—Christina, Nicole (Eric), Travis, Kurtis, Allyssa (Dustin), Katherine, Corey (Louisa), Keegan, Brandon, and Daniel—and great-grandchildren Bailey and Liam brought immense joy to her life.
She was known for her generous spirit and her readiness to help anyone in need. Diane had a passion for writing, crafting, and drawing, which reflected her creative soul and brought beauty into the lives of those around her.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Manis, Sr. and Violet Manis, her granddaughter Kenleigh, and her siblings Donna and Tim. She is survived by her devoted husband James, her children and their spouses, her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her siblings Connie, Kathy, Pete (Elaine), Joan, Holly, Joy (Mark), and Scott, as well as her sister-in-law Michelle.

In this time of sorrow, Diane's family and friends find solace in remembering her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion. While her presence will be profoundly missed, her spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
May Diane Marie Smith rest in peace, surrounded by the love she gave so freely during her lifetime.
