Obituary

Donald "Don" James Staffeld, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on May 25, 2026, in Brownstown, Michigan, at the age of 81. Born on September 1, 1944, in Wayne, Michigan, Don lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.

Don proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, an experience that fueled his lifelong passion for military history. After his service, he embarked on a successful career as a tool and die maker, retiring from Unistrut after many years of hard work and commitment.

A man of many interests, Don was known for his love of tinkering with things, always eager to understand how they worked. He cherished traveling to visit his son during his military postings, and he found joy in exploring new places. Don was also an avid fan of John Wayne and James Bond movies, as well as the television show M*A*S*H, which brought him much enjoyment over the years. Dining out was another pleasure he shared with family and friends.

Don was deeply involved in his community and faith, dedicating much of his time to St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Boston, where he was a cherished member. His faith and fellowship were central to his life, providing him with strength and purpose.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Margaret Staffeld, and his brother-in-law, Larry Harris. Don leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Anna Staffeld; his three sons, David (Melinda) Staffeld, James (Tricia) Staffeld, and Robert Staffeld; and his cherished grandchildren, Austin (Rebecca) Trychel, Mickey Staffeld, and Alex Staffeld. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Freyja and Soren. Don is survived by his sister, Carol Harris, and his brother, Dennis Staffeld, along with many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home with a service on Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Instate at 10:00 am; Service at 11:00am). Interment to follow at Michigan Memorial Park.
