Obituary

Dorothea "Dora" Ilona Szabo-Cabral, a beloved wife, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Brownstown, Michigan, at the age of 66. Born on March 16, 1960, in Wayne, Michigan, Dora brought joy and laughter to all who knew her.

Dora was known for her warm and friendly nature, always ready with a smile and an infectious laugh that could brighten anyone's day. Her love of music, especially classic rock legends like Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, and Ozzy Osbourne, was a defining part of her vibrant personality. She cherished her trips to Las Vegas, most recently celebrating her birthday there with her devoted husband, Dave. Part of her joy in traveling came from her love of airplanes; she had always wanted to be a flight attendant.

For 18 years, Dora worked as a cashier at Meijer, where she was admired for her personable and social demeanor. Her colleagues and customers alike appreciated her humor and kindness.

Dora's love extended beyond people to her cherished cats, who were a constant source of comfort and companionship.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Helen Szabo, and her in-laws, Jesse and Mabel Cabral. Dora leaves behind her loving husband of 33 years, Dave Cabral; her stepchildren, David (Mihaela) Cabral and Michelle Cabral; and her adored grandchildren, Brittney Cabral, Danielle (Alonzo Carroll) Cabral, Jacob (Erica Murrell) Ciesla, and Monique Cabral. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Silas and Kade.

Dora is also survived by her brother, Andrew Szabo, and her sister, Nora (Vince Cardiel) Szabo. She will be fondly remembered by her nephew Josh, nieces Alexcys and Brianna (Cameron), and great-nephew Luke. Her memory will also be cherished by many extended family members in Canada and Hungary, as well as countless friends.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. A service to honor Dora's life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Michigan Memorial Park.

Dora's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten
