Obituary

Gary Lee Slater, born on February 10, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Flat Rock, Michigan, at the age of 72.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary was a man whose hands were always busy, whether as a skilled mechanic or a passionate woodworker. His love for building things and working on projects at home was well-known among those who cherished his company. Gary was a graduate of Lawrence Tech, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He dedicated 38 years of his professional life to DTE, where he worked diligently and with great pride. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and determination.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward and Virginia Slater. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Kay Slater, who stood by his side throughout their years together. He leaves behind his cherished children, Adam Bye and his partner Katie, and Lily Mousseau and her partner Paul, along with his treasured grandchildren, George, Hunter M., Azalea, Hunter B., Xavier, Addison, Chloe, Azazel, and Aurora, who brought endless joy to his life.

His siblings, Sharon Kapit and her husband Don, Pam Saldana and her husband Dave, and Alicia Thompson and her husband James, will miss him dearly, as will his numerous adopted grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. Gary also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Ecie Stewart, and his faithful furry companions, Ranger, Cash and Rett.

In remembrance of Gary's kind spirit and generous heart, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in his honor.

May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Condolences
