Obituary

Gene Arnold Schoen, born on June 29, 1938, in Flat Rock, Michigan, passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 87 in Trenton, Michigan.

Gene dedicated his professional life to serving as a conductor for the railroad, where he built a reputation for his diligence and commitment to his work. Outside of his career, he was a man of many passions. He cherished the great outdoors, often spending his time hunting and fishing. His love for his family was unparalleled, and he found immense joy in watching his grandchildren play sports, always their most enthusiastic supporter.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kayleen Schoen, and grandson, Chad Schoen, along with many other loving family members who were dear to him.

Gene is survived by his devoted wife, Thelma, whose companionship was the cornerstone of his life. His legacy continues through his children: Dawn (Ken) Fiema, Gene (Ginger) Schoen, and Lisa (David) Pishlo. He leaves behind eight loving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory. He is also survived by his sisters, Cathy Dotson and Edna Lemke, who held a special place in his heart.

Gene was a man who never met a stranger; his welcoming nature and genuine kindness touched all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Above all, he loved his family deeply and treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. His warmth and generosity will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

  • With deepest sympathies to all the families . A cousin, daughter of ELLEN RUSHLOW Dolores Fryckman
  • Our hearts are broken 💔. I met Gene in 1975 when Gene and Ginger started dating. We have been friends since. When I came to Michigan in the summer Gene would come to Ginger's and we would talk for hours. He would tell me all about his years on the Railroad and I would tell him all about my years at McLoughlin steel. Sometimes we would go to Leo's for breakfast. I also accompanied him to his Railroad dinner where he knew and greeted all his friends. I will miss my dear friend. Thelma take care. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. 🙏 Jerry Jones
  • Please accept my deepest sympathy. You are in my prayers always. Love Robin Robin Schoen
  • Gene was a good friend who I worked with for over 30 years. He was dedicated to his job and was also a great teacher of his craft. He was so easy to work with and a pleasure to be around. I usually had breakfast with him on Wednesdays in Rockwood, and he will be sorely missed. His stories of work , hunting and fishing were always a grin to hear. He will be remembered for ever. Thoughts and prayers to the family and all of us who will miss him. Rest in peace my friend. Dickey Sharpe. Dickey Sharpe
  • Gene was a wonderful man to work with. He will be missed greatly at our monthly Old timers lunches, he often asked if he could help me get food. It's who he was, always helpful. Paul Busick
