SOMMER, Genevieve, age 96, of Garden City, February 02, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Casper Sommer. Loving mother of Joe (Cathy) Sommer, Mike (Shelly) Sommer and Nick (Marie) Sommer. Dearest grandmother of Joe, Jamie, Dayna, Michael and Jennifer and great-grandmother of Alexandra, Ryan, James, Audrey, Adam and Ian. She is also survived by her sister Agnes Benedict. She is preceded in death by her son John Sommer and her parents William and Mary Serafinski. Her cremation took place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. Genevieve Sommer (Jenny) was born in 1922 of Polish immigrants. Her mother died when she was 7 years old and her father was undependable, seldom seen by his children. Jenny and her sister Agnes lived with foster parents for eight years until the age of 14 or 15. (A part of her life that she would like to forget). The two girls were then re-united with their other brothers and sisters and lived in poverty with support only coming from the oldest siblings. She was ecstatic to get her first job (lunch counter at the five and dime) and earn money to help the family.
