Obituary

Helen Joyce Schroeder, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away  at the age of 75 on June 4, 2025, in Brownstown, Michigan. She was born on March 20, 1950, in Wytheville, Virginia, to the late James and Emily Bilbrey.

Helen lived a life filled with love, devotion, and joy. She cherished her family deeply, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always open, and her heart was warm, serving as an extra mom and grandma to anyone who needed one. Her gentle spirit touched countless lives, offering comfort and kindness wherever she went.

Her interests were simple yet profound; she found immense joy in puzzles and cheering for the Tigers Baseball team. Helen's faith was a guiding force in her life, reflected in her deep love for church, Jesus, and her active participation in Bible Club. Her ability to spoil those around her was legendary, and her generosity knew no bounds.

Helen is survived by her devoted husband, Ken Schroeder, and her loving children: Vicky Smith, Kim (Toby) Garland, Brian (Anna) Schroeder, and April (Josh) Lowery. Her legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren: Amber Schroeder, Rebecca (Dayton) Swoveland, Hannah Alvarez, Cassie (Chris) Langdon, Emma (Zander) Szwed, Maddie (Elijah) Favors, Carson Lowery, and Wyatt Schroeder. Helen was also blessed with great-grandchildren Skylar, Nova, Lincoln, Jack, Tanner, Cooper, and Baby Girl Szwed, who is on the way.

She is also fondly remembered by her siblings: Rocky (Jenny) Bilbrey, Tim (Dee) Bilbrey, Dan (Pam) Bilbrey, and Trisha (Drew) Kendall, all of whom shared in the joy of her life and the sorrow of her passing.

Helen Joyce Schroeder's legacy of love, faith, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her. While her presence will be dearly missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved.

Condolences

  • To Ken and his family: Guy and I are so very sorry for your loss. The pain is real; however, it’s not something you get over but it is something you get through. Our love and prayers are with you always. Pauline Vadasy
