Obituary

Helen Stevens, age 94, passed away on July 21, 2026, in Taylor, Michigan. Born on September 20, 1931, in Monroe, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of William and Patricia. Helen dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth.

Helen worked as an Optician's Assistant, where her attention to detail and compassionate nature touched the lives of many. Her gentle spirit and warm smile were a comfort to all who knew her.

An avid quilter, Helen spent countless hours perfecting her craft, creating beautiful pieces that will be cherished by her family for generations. She also enjoyed immersing herself in the thrilling novels of James Patterson and found joy in watching the classic James Bond films. Helen also was an avid swimmer and enjoyed exercising to keep herself moving. Above all, Helen treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nurturing and guiding them with her endless love and wisdom.

Helen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Shellie; her beloved son, Gary Dwight Stevens; her siblings, Mary Hovatter, Michael Michail, and Peter Michail; and her parents, William and Patricia.

She is survived by her loving children, Steven (Sandra) Stevens, Dawn (Michael) Tomich, and John Edward Stevens. Her legacy continues through her 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gene Michail, as well as two nieces and one nephew.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home. A service to honor Helen's life will take place at 6:00 PM. Inurnment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Helen's name, continuing her legacy of kindness and care for others. Helen will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
