Obituary
Herman Sturgill, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on February 20, 1945, Herman lived a rich life filled with the music, love, and memories that he cherished so dearly.
Herman was a man who found joy in the melodies of life, surrounding himself with a vast collection of musical instruments and creating music that brought happiness to those around him. His artistic talents extended beyond music to wood carving, where his hands skillfully crafted beautiful pieces. He also enjoyed collecting an assortment of knives and guns, each with a story of its own.
Above all else, family was the center of Herman’s world. He held a special place in his heart for his beloved wife, Lois Sturgill whom he met on a blind date and has been married to for 59 wonderful years, and his dear children, Benita (Donald) Kelley and Regina Hamilton. Together, they created countless memories that will forever be cherished. Herman captured these moments through his photography, meticulously recording weddings and other significant events. His passion for preserving memories manifested itself in the creation of special CDs, memory keepsakes that will continue to be treasured by his family.
Herman and Lois often journeyed down south, visiting the beautiful landscapes of Kentucky and Tennessee. They shared joyful travels to destinations like Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, accompanied by their family. Their trips, woven with laughter and love, were testament to the bond they shared.
Herman's faith was an important aspect of his life, attending church at Harvest Worship Center in Taylor alongside his wife, becoming an ordained deacon, being a Bible teacher and believing in a greater plan drawn up by God. He showcased his love for nature as the garden manager at Kmart in Southgate, where his appreciation for flowers truly blossomed.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Ballard and Gladys Sturgill; brother-in-law, Elster Tibbs; and sister, Julie Johnson. He leaves behind a loving family, including his beloved wife, Lois, his children, Benita and Regina, his grandchildren, Autum Kelley, Makinsey (Josiah) Crawley, Andrew Kelley and Joy Hamilton, and his siblings, Jettie Tibbs, Betsy (Larry) Burnett, Rachel (Caramel) Hamilton, Edna Michael, Teene Porter, Joann (James) Marsillett, Kennly Sturgill, John Sturgill and Debbie (Ricky) Bentley, who will all carry the tender memories of his kindness and warmth forward. Herman's legacy endures through the love and memories shared with his family and friends. His big heart, blessed with creativity and devotion, leaves an indelible mark on all who had the fortune to know him.
