On November 28, 2009. James Stewart Jr. joined his wife Margaret in eternal rest. James was the first child born in America to Scottish immigrants, James Sr. and Rebecca (Sharp) Stewart on November 23, 1926. When James was three years old the family moved to Brownstown Township. As a teenager Jimmy joined his father working for Ford Motor Company. In 1945 his mother dropped him at the army recruitment center in Flat Rock, just to sign up. Jim called her from Chicago, telling her not to hold dinner, he was on a train to Georgia for paratroop training to join the 101st Airborne’s Screaming Eagles. His unit converged into the 11th Airborne and was assigned to the Pacific theater of World War II. When the war was over Jim returned home and back to work at Ford’s. He attended Ford’s technical school to become an electrician, and eventually became the manager of the Telephone Division at Ford’s Rouge Plant. In 1950 Jim married Margaret Mary Voss. The couple brought their 2 daughters, Diane and Barbara home to their house in Riverview. In 1957 the family moved into Jim’s childhood home in Brownstown Township. Always a hard working, outdoorsman, Jim added Stewarts’s Nursery; a successful landscaping business to his job at Ford’s. Jim was also an avid hunter. Preparations for deer hunting would often begin as early as July. When his daughters were in school, Jim became involved in school politics, and served for many years on the Maple Grove School Board. Jim and his friends saw a need for and became the founding members of the Brownstown Fire Department, as both firefighters and EMTs. Jim became a Captain and acting Chief. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret, his son-in-law Larry Welch; sisters: Agnes McLenon, Rebecca Lukofsky, and Margaret Duvall.He is survived by: daughters, Diane Welch, and Barbara (Daniel) Law. His sister, Kathleen (Russell) Scharboneau, and brother Jack (Diane) Stewart, grandchildren Michael (Alison) Law, Patrick Law, Zachary Welch; and many loving nieces, nephews and close friends.
