Obituary

JoAnn Smith, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on January 24, 2025, in Brownstown, Michigan, at the age of 88. Born on August 23, 1936, in Barbourville, Kentucky, she lived a life filled with love, dedication, and quiet resilience.

JoAnn was the beloved daughter of the late Charlie and Maude. She was preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings, whose memories she held dear throughout her life.

JoAnn is survived by her devoted husband, Ivan, with whom she shared many wonderful years. Together, they built a loving family that will carry on her legacy. She leaves behind her sons, Ivan (Ginger) Smith and Jerrold (Christy) Smith, who were her pride and joy.

Her grandchildren, Chad (Alison) Smith, Joshua (Christi) Smith, Chelsea (Jack) Sammons, and Chandler Smith, will forever cherish the warmth and wisdom she imparted to them. JoAnn was blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Isaac, Micah, Nicolas, Nolan, Isabella, Sophia, Chloe, Jackson, Paisley, and Owen, who brought immense joy to her later years.

JoAnn's work as an assembler showcased her meticulous nature and dedication to detail, traits that were also evident in her personal life. As an avid quilter, she created beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic spirit. Her love for gardening and flowers transformed her surroundings into vibrant displays, which she tended to with care.

Spending time with her family was JoAnn's greatest joy, and she cherished every moment with them. A passionate sports fan, she especially loved supporting the Kirby Red Softball Team, meticulously keeping track of scores on her own. Her attention to detail extended to her travels, where she kept careful records of her mileage per gallon.

Family, friends, and all who knew her are invited to honor JoAnn's memory. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a service at 7:00 PM. Interment will take place at Michigan Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kirby Church in Flat Rock, Michigan, in honor of JoAnn's enduring faith and community spirit.

JoAnn Smith will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family. Her presence in our lives was a blessing, and she will be deeply missed.
