John A. Stanek, Jr., 69, of Brownstown Township, Michigan passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021. Mr. Stanek was born October 4, 1951, in Trenton, Michigan, to John A. Stanek, Sr. and Harriet (Krempa) Stanek of Romulus, Michigan. He attended Romulus High School in Romulus, Michigan and then continued his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geological studies. John worked several years in the oil fields of West Texas before returning home to his family in Michigan. John was very dedicated to his faith in God and loved the natural peace and tranquility of Northern Michigan. He is survived by his brother Gary S. Stanek of Brownstown, Michigan, his sister Rosemary (Stanek) DiNello of Springfield, Illinois; her spouse, Jack DiNello, Jr.; and nephews Nicholas DiNello and Anthony DiNello. He was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet Jean and his father John Alexander. His cremation took place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

John was a friend of mine in the Geology Department of Western Michigan University. We got to know each other on a float trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in 1973. Those were good days. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Steve Pierce
